5 lbs. Oil Bloom Glaze Cone 10 Reduction
Description: This glaze is beautiful applied thin. A classic oil spot glaze when fired in cone 10 reduction. A dark, plum background with dark gray oil blooms when applied to porcelain and lighter colored bodies like BMix and Vegas Buff Smooth. So far, it's working well on the stoneware bodies we've tried as well.
Mixing: One order equals 5 lbs. of dry glaze. Makes approx one gallon of glaze. Add water and and screen 2 times thru an 80 mesh screen. Have this glaze at 40-42 on the hydrometer.
For Hammertone Texture: First apply the Hammertone Slip and bisque fire to cone 08. Then, follow the same directions for applying the Oil Bloom Glaze. Hammertone Slip is available for purchase on the Slips Page of this website.
Loading and Firing: Cone 10 reduction. When firing for Oil Bloom or Hammertone Texture be sure to have this work loadedaway from the flame. It works best when it's loaded on the inner shelves protected by other work. If it's near the flame or loaded on the top shelf it's exposed to a lot of reduction and will go a graphite, gray texture.
Important Note: Remember to run a few tests before applying any unfamiliar slip orglaze to lots of work. Take notes. Find the correct application for your work with the way your kiln is being fired.
