Amy's Original Magic Slip (Dry Material)
Description: This is the Original Magic Slip that's made with Porcelain to be applied to Porcelain. It's formulated to go from super-thick to thin. This is not Coleman Porcelain. This is a formulation that's made to be applied much thicker without cracking. Allow it to dry naturally on your work. Do not cover it with plastic. Just keep it out of a draft. Works in reduction and oxidation. And, fires from cone 6 to cone 10.
Extra Info: The Original Magic Slip bonds the best to a real porcelain body. If the porcelain you're using has ball clay in it - it's not porcelain. Our New Magic Slip is formulated to be applied to other clay bodies like BMix, other porcelains, and some stonewares.
Mixing: To mix it super-thick I barely add enough water to make it like super-thick mud. Then, mix it with a mixer paddle on a drill. I then force it through a 60 mesh bowl screen 2 times with my hand to scoop it and push it through. If you want the slip thinner for spraying add more water.
Bisque Fire on: (we bisque porcelain to cone 010). Then, dip or spray Ceramist Underglazes. And, or your favorite glazes.
Fires: From cone 6 to cone 10.
Note 1: Remember to run a few tests before applying any unfamiliar slip or glaze to lots of work. Take notes. Find the correct application for your work with the way your kiln is being fired.
Note 2: We aren't able to offer discounts on larger quantities at the moment with a shortage of ceramic materials for porcelains in the US right now. We just hope we're able to still work in porcelain as this country makes big changes in it's ability to transport materials.
