5 lbs. Tiki Turquoise Glaze. (Over Zach's Black) Cone 10 (Dry Material)
Description: This Turquoise works well over any cone 10 porcelain or stoneware body. This glaze is not in Tom's glaze book.
Mixing: One order equals 5 lbs. of dry glaze. Add water and screen twice thru and 80 mesh screen. Makes approximately 1 gallon of liquid glaze. 40-42 on a hydrometer.
Application: If you want a black background: first apply Black Magic Slip and bisque fire on. (Information on Black Magic Slip is located in the Slips page of this website). I like to dip this glaze. And, it works well when it's sprayed. For an added effect: spray a copper red glaze into the rim.
Firing: Cone 10 reduction and cone 10 oxidation.
Important Note: Remember to run a few tests before applying any unfamiliar slip orglaze to lots of work. Take notes. Find the correct application for your work with the way your kiln is being fired.
To APPLY Black Magic Slip:
Application:
1) First apply Black Magic Slip to your greenware when it's bone-dry before you bisque fire. We like to spray it on. Make sure it's not too thick if you're going to dip the slip on. It will turn out a little different. Be Sure to test everything!
Note: you can also apply BMS to bisqueware and re-bisque it to cone 010.
2) WE BISQUE ALL PORCELAIN TO CONE 010. Important. Cone 04 is to high to bisque. It's only meant for groggy stoneware bodies. So, bisque the BMS onto the work to cone 010.
3) Once the BMS is Bisque fired on, you can now apply any of the copper-purple glazes.
