5 lbs. Lavender Bubble Glaze. Cone 10 R (Dry Material)
Description: This lavender looks purple in some lighting and blue in other lighting. Either way, it's an incredibly vibrant color that stands out. It reveals carving and is food safe. It's an excellent glaze for carving. And, it makes a great liner glaze for functional ware. This glaze is not in Tom's glaze book.
Important Note: This is a "translucent" glaze. Which means it's color will be influenced by the color of the clay body it's on. These images show the glaze on a cone 10 porcelain which is a white clay body. If you put it onto BMix or another less-white clay body it won't be the samecolor.
Mixing: Add water and screen twice thru an 80 mesh screen. It can be anywhere from 42-55 on the hydrometer. 42-45 if you want a thinner application to show fine details in carving. (count to 6 on a dip). Or, 50-55 if you want a deeper purple. (count to 4 on a dip).
Application: This glaze can be dipped or sprayed. Apply thin for more visibility for fine, detailed carving. And, it goes on a nicely with a medium-thick application for a deeper purple and won't shift at cone 10 reduction.
Firing: Cone 10 reduction.
Important Note: Remember to run a few tests before applying any unfamiliar slip or glaze to lots of work. Take notes. ​Find the correct application for your work with the way your kiln is being fired.
