5 lbs. Seashell Glaze Cone 10 Reduction
Description: This glaze has a seashell like quality to it with occasional crystal formations. This glaze needs to go on thin. Testing will be required in order to get the correct application for the way your kiln is being fired. Be sure to read below.
Mixing: One order equals 5 lbs of dry glaze. Makes approximately 1 gallon of liquid glaze. Add water and screen twice thru an 80 mesh screen. You'll want this at about 40-42 on the hydrometer.
Application: Dipped or sprayed thin. Be sure to test this glaze and take careful notes. It's best to fire the work you put this glaze on - onto wadding or onto some sort of cookies in case it runs. It will protect your kiln shelves. You can also use this glaze as a thin wash and spray it into other glazes. Just remember it's a flux (meaning it can run). To test over other glazes I mist this glaze around a top portion of a piece so it has some room to move a bit without being applied near the foot. I've put this glaze on the inside of cups and bowls. But, I think a color bubble glaze liner looks great with the seashell surface of this glaze. I carry Ocean Bubble, Turquoise Bubble and Beach Glass Green Bubble.
Note: Always test any unfamiliar slip or glaze on tests (rather than on important work). Take notes.
