5 lbs. Mint Crystal Glaze. Cone 10 ox (Dry Material)
Description: MintCrystal Glaze has a nice, subtle range of crystals. One of the easiest crystal glazes to use. This is not a "crystalline" glaze and it doesn't require a soak program. Food safe. Shown on porcelain. This glaze is available in different colors and they can be used in combinations with each other for nice effects.
Mixing and Application: Add water and hydrate to 40 on your hydrometer. This can be dipped or sprayed. And, only screen through a 60 mesh once. Dip for a count of 2 or 3. This works the best when it's applied a bit thin.
Important info about Firing: Be sure to have a self-supporting cone 10 in the peep hole when you fire this glaze. You'll want to be watching the kiln when it gets close to temperature. I program my Cone Art Kiln so it has a 10 minute soak at the end of the firing. This way I can watch the cone and turn the kiln off when cone 10 is half way over (pointing at 3:00).
+Porcelain works the best. Works on some b-mix and stonewares. We bisque porcelain to cone 010.
+When loading your electric kiln remember to space your work apart slightly so the heat can reach the center of the kiln.
+Fire in an electric kiln that's meant to go to cone 10. If the walls on your kiln are thin it will take longer to get to cone 10 and it will wash out the color and crystals.
+Use a Self-supporting cone 10 witness cone in the spy hole and make sure your cone is bent halfway over when you shut down.
+Cool normally. You just don't want to thermal shock your wares.
