Large Brass Platter Rib
Why Brass: A Brass Rib on a smooth throwing clay body creates the nicest surface. And, brass on porcelain has a reverse polarity effect where it pushes the porcelain down to compress the particles even closer. The tighter the particles in the body the better the surface is under a glaze. This allows the glaze to do whatever magic it's capable of while it's being fired. In other words, if a surface is "bumpy" or porous the glaze is being interrupted during the melt. For example if a glaze were to grow crystals and the surface is open or bumpy it will interrupt the crystal formations. Now you know why we like porcelain, no grog, and an ultra smooth surface..
Description: This larger sized rib is perfect for larger bowls and platters. This templet was taken from a Tom Coleman rib and created in brass.
