18 oz. CeraMist Slip (Aerosol) Cone 6-10
Release and Ship Date is March 5th. Taking Pre-Orders.
Description: Six Slips available. Add color to your existing glazes from underneath by spraying on a color slip. There are no CFC's in this aerosol. We've simply taken the idea of spraying paint and applied it to slips and glazes. Patent pending.
Note: Just like spraying paint - use an OSHA approved particle/vapor mask or respirator P-100. And, a Water Back Spray Booth. This is the best way to spray any slips, glazes or paints from any type of paint sprayer or airbrush tool. Recycle containers responsibly - just like you do with any other aerosol containers.
Application: No mixing, no screening, no compressor, no mess and no storage of extra materials. No lines from the paint brush, and no painting multiple layers of slip or glaze. This is a new way to apply slips and glazes. It produces a different effect than dipping and painting. Work with it and test it. It's available as a different, convenient way for you to develop your own style. Spray it onto wet ware to leather hard. You can carve through it (sgraffito), mishima, etc. Or apply it to bisque ware, let it dry, and dip or spray glazes over the top. Then, fire to temperature. This slip works well from cone 6 to cone 10 in an electric kiln and reduction.
1) Shake Well
2) Bisque Temperature: We want the body to still be absorbent if you're spraying, dipping, painting, etc. For so many reasons - You should NOT be bisque firing to cone 04. It's too hot. You're closing off the clay body. Porcelain: bisque to cone 08. All other bodies can be bisque fired to cone 06. There's only a few super-rugged stoneware bodies that have a lot of organic matter in them that need to be bisque fired to cone 04 to get rid of pin holes.
3) For the First Spray - Point the can away from your work. You want the slip or glaze to be flowing out of the sprayer well before you apply it to your work. Then, point it at your work and spray-sweep even strokes as you turn the turn style. Have the spray about 3-4 inches away. You want it to go on "wet". Do one full rotation spray and allow to dry a few minutes. Then, a vertical sweep on a rotation. I have a video on my facebook page at Amy Kline. And, my IG is kline.glazes.
4) Just like spray paint - when you're finished spraying turn the container upside down and spray to clean out the nozzle before storing for any length of time.
Shipping: It costs an average of $15 to ship 3 aerosols and $25 to ship up to 6 aerosols. If the price is more upon check out don't place the order. Email me and I'll send you a custom invoice with the exact amount within a day.
Special Note: OSHA approved dust mask P-100 Available on Amazon for $7.99. I wear it for all of my mixing now instead of the N-95.
Image: Show's Amy's Color Box choices of no-bisque slips under Elaine's Clear Glaze. Some of them are fired to cone 6, some to 10 and some in reduction. The colors are great in all types of firing. We're just starting to explore all the possibilities!
