Magic Slip Tools
Description: Magic Slip Tools are made from somewhat soft silicone rubber so they make marks into the liquid slip "gently." They can be used in a horizontal direction as the wheel is turning. Or, swept through the wet slip in other random directions. Sky's the limit! It's all about making marks and ridges that will hold the glaze. These are individually hand-crafted. Each one of my slip tools are unique and create fluid, sensuous lines in thick, decorating slip.
The Cockscomb leaves behind a few raised, smooth cord-like edges as you gently drag the tool through the slip.
The Conehead: Large and triangular. The tapered shape makes a great mark. I use this a lot to make deep, horizontal grooves into the slip while the wheel is turning. (I wait until the work is leather hard and trim or carve into the marks later).
The Mini: Is a smaller version of the Conehead and it works great for thin, tight patterns.
The Snub-Nose: This shape is more direct without the taper. It makes a totally different mark then the other slip tools.
The Blank: The is the Cockscomb without any shapes cut into it. If you leave it the way it is it's a flat flexible shape to sweep away the slip. Or, you can cut it to make your own custom mark on the silicone edge.
Please don't leave these soaking in water. They're made with waterproof materials, but it's best to rinse them in clean water and dry them with a soft towel before putting them away.
