Magic Slip Tool: Thin Ridged Slip Rib
Description: This rib is thin, lightweight, supple and extremely flexible. It's designed to create a variety of ridges easily around (or in) a form that's covered with a thick application of decorating slip. It's "scoop-like" flexibility gently removes the excess slip as you sweep across the form and remove the extra slip as you leave behind unique marks. I work with several colors when I make tools. When you order my tools you receive the color currently happening on my workbench.
Creating "marks" on the surface of the clay body (or into an added layer of slip), catches the glaze. Some glazes have the potential to give different effects if they pool thick, medium, or stretch thin over a raised area. Our reason for using decorating slip is to create an interesting topography on a surface to get the most potential of glaze effects from a glaze as it moves across an uneven surface as it melts in the kiln.
