Tom Coleman Workshop: Fossil Jar (Video)
Description: Fossil Jar and Lidded Cap Jar:
In this demonstration Tom will be throwing one of his Fossil Jars which demonstrates his technique of altering the porcelain as he throws the form. This is a technique that makes it so you can alter forms you wouldn't be able to get your hand back into after the form is thrown (bottles, etc). Tom also talked about throwing a Lidded Cap Jar and pulling and attaching a Handle on a Mug. There was also mention of creating a Bottle Form where the bottom half is altered and slip designed before attaching the top half of the bottle.
This Workshop includes two hours of Tom Coleman being "Tom" with all of his knowledge, humor, and insights about life. If you've ever taken a workshop with Tom Coleman- you know.
Every one of these Workshops is inspiring. Our hope is these moments with Tom and Elaine Coleman encourage you to investigate further into the value of what we're all doing as potters. How amazing it is that our generations have been able to bring art and commerce together to raise families. This is something we hope will be possible again someday.
It's up to all of us to keep the art of clay alive for generations to come. Please teach pottery and continue the love of clay.
