This Registration is a 50% deposit to reserve your space in this Workshop.
The balance of $750.00 is due one week before the workshop. Amy will send you a link for payment.
Total Workshop Fee: $1,500.00
Description: In this Workshop Tom Coleman shares information for different types of glaze application: dipping, spraying, brushwork, and experimental shino. After we glaze and load the kiln, we’ll spend 2 days on the potters wheel throwing porcelain with Tom. This class is limited to 7 participants.
Requirement to Attend this Workshop: Be able to center up to 2 lbs on a potters wheel and pull up a 6” cylinder. If you have any questions call Amy at 702-493-6148.
Learn about what Most Studios Don't teach you:
1) What's Important about the clay body under the glaze.
2) The temperature you should bisque fire your work to.
3) The best thickness for applying your glaze.
4) Firing to cone 10 In Reduction.
5) Good Chemistry for Functional Ware.
This Workshop is best for people who:
+ Already have a cone 10 reduction kiln.
+ Are seriously considering firing to cone 10 reduction.
+ Are firing to cone 10 in an Electric Kiln.
This workshop is not for people who:
+ Are firing to other temperature ranges that would just like to have a few pieces fired in reduction.
+ Need to get finished work from this workshop to sell. This is an educational workshop.
If you work in a community studio: Ask if they would bisque fire your work to only Cone 010. Be prepared for them to not allow you to do this because they’ve all learned from the Clay Suppliers to bisque to cone 04. Cone 04 starts to close off the porcelain or Bmix body so it doesn’t absorb glaze as well. Bisque firing to cone 08 is also acceptable. Cone 06 is pushing it. Cone 04 is totally too hot.
If they won’t fire your bisque work to cone 010 and you’d like to attend, call Amy at 702-493-6148 and let her know. She will have bisque ware ready for you here so you'll have pots you can glaze and learn all the glaze process with Tom and get nice work from the firing.
Bring to this Workshop: Bisque fired work created in (either) a cone 10 porcelain, or a cone 10 bmix clay body. Bisque fire this work to cone 010.
Note: Your best results are going to be on a cone 10 porcelain body. Bmix fires out Grey and affects the final color with a grey color to the glazes. In case you have no experience throwing porcelain, Tom Coleman will be teaching you how to throw porcelain during this workshop.
Bring:
1) 2 - Tea Bowls measuring 5” across x 5” tall with a smooth surface.
2) 2 - Tumblers measuring 3 ½ ” across x 5” tall with just a smooth surface.
3) 1 - Tumbler measuring 3 ½ ” across x 5” tall with some sort of carving into the surface.
