5 lbs Glazes for Translucent Porcelain (dry material)
Notes: When working with Translucent Porcelain it's important to ask what you're using it for. Are you planing to illuminate it?
Material Information: These glazes have been tested on a few different translucent porcelain formulas. Translucent porcelain is made (in part) by using Halloysite: which has a tubular structure to it. This materials crazes with regular-formulated glazes and celadons. The glazes we've developed are created specifically for translucent porcelain and makes it so there's little to no crazing if applied correctly and fired to cone 10.
Description: These transparent glazes are available in several colors. One of the glazes is a bit more "opaque" and easy to decorate on. When light is shone through it, it creates a milk-glass type of surface.
Mixing: Add water and screen twice through a 100 mesh screen. A hydrometer reading of 40 is just right.
The translucent porcelain body we're currently using is Polar Ice from The Bray.
These glazes also work well on Coleman Porcelain.
We bisque fire Porcelains to cone 010 (this is important). Always remember to Only bisque fire your porcelain body to cone 010 so the glaze can penetrate into the bisque ware and the glaze and the porcelain go up to temp together. Glaze fire to cone 10. Glaze Application: We recommend dipping into the glaze with a count of 2-3.
Firing Directions: To cone 10.
