All About Porcelain We Glaze First! Bring lots of pots bisque fired to (only) cone 010.

**Be sure to read the bisque requirements we send you in the email once you register.

You'll receive lots of glaze Information from Tom in his workshops. We'll be glazing and firing your work in (both) cone 10 reduction, and in cone 10 electric. We have stellar glazes for both firings!

This workshop also takes place on the potters' wheels with Tom. Elaine designs and shares her Incising techniques for participants that are interested. Amy Kline, a longtime apprentice to Tom and Elaine, is also in the workshops sharing her knowledge.

Details: Limited to 7 participants, we're able to work more directly with you at your current skill level, to take you to the next step forward with your work. Porcelain isn't difficult, you just need to work with it differently than you would work with stoneware or Bmix.

Porcelain: "real porcelain" is as close to working with glass as you can get without blowing glass. The higher the temp, the better the melt. If you've always loved Tom's glazes, learn directly from him how to work in porcelain to get similar results.

Requirement to participate: Be able to center and pull a 6" cylinder from about 2 lbs. in BMix, porcelain, or stoneware. We don't expect you to be great at throwing porcelain to attend this workshop. But, we need to make sure you have enough time at the wheel to center, pull up the material, and trim your work. Amy is there to work with you to fine-tune your initial throwing skills. All skill levels beyond that are great for Tom to help you go even further with your work.

Dates: January 21-25th, 2026

More Workshop Details:

Ship or bring bisque ware to this workshop. The class schedule is from Wednesday - Saturday is 8:00 am-4:30 pm. Sunday from 9:00 am - Noon. We start the workshop with lots of instruction and participation with glazing your work: spraying glazes, dipping, pouring and brushwork. Then, we load and fire the kiln with Tom and work on the wheels with Tom. Tom also shows us how to photograph our work.

On Friday night of the workshop Tom and Elaine host a gathering at the house for the participants with a tour of their home and gallery. Tom takes us through his collection of ceramics, including his favorite potters' works. If you're coming from out of town we'll send you a list of places to stay nearby.

This class includes Wet porcelain used during the workshop. We'll have coffee and something yummy cooked by Elaine in the mornings. We have a fridge for people to bring their lunch, or participants head out for lunch. We also have sandwich shops nearby.
