Description: Customized to your studio for Tom Coleman and Amy Kline's knowledge in cone 10 porcelain. Whether you're interested in throwing demonstrations, firing and glazing with your community, or all of the above. Our knowledge ranges from throwing porcelain, loading and firing reduction and cone 10 electric, to spraying, dipping, and decorating with slips and glazes.

Note 1: If this is a workshop you'd like to arrange for a private party at Tom and Elaine Coleman's Studio the price of $9,000.00 for a 5 day hands-on workshop is for a total of 6 participants.

Note 2: Send us an email of your plans for our workshop at your studio to [email protected] We'll arrange a time to call and talk with you about what will work best. Our workshop fee is customized to your location, our transportation, and the workshop length of time.

Suggestion: To make the most of our workshop on the road we recommend a larger space where you can have more people attend. With Demonstration Workshops only 2 wheels and a few tables are needed in the space. Tom and Amy are throwing forms and answering questions. This type of workshop has the potential to make the most revenue for the studio and pays our workshop fee, travel and lodging. If we need to fly to your location we look for the best rates on flights and then have you reimburse us.

Deposit: The 50% deposit reserves your workshop. We then prepare and ship our supplies to your workshop ahead of time.

For Hands-On Workshops: The more wheels and the bigger the kilns are the better. Our largest Hands-on workshops to date have been 23 people on wheels and a 24 cu ft Geil reduction kiln. For this to work best we recommend the participants pay into the workshop. For our workshops onsite here in NV we charge $1,500.00 per person for a 5 day workshop which covers Tom Coleman's fees, utilities, firing costs and porcelain for each participant.

More details about our All About Porcelain On-Site Workshops:

We Glaze First! Lots of Glaze Info from Tom, including Experimental Shino fired in Reduction, along with our new glazes developed by Amy that create crystals in the electric kiln fired to a soft Cone 10 without a fancy firing schedule. Amy Kline, a longtime apprentice to Tom and Elaine, shares her more sculptural techniques for working in porcelain on the wheel and creates forms from thrown sections. We also share raw material information for clay bodies and glazes.

Porcelain: "real porcelain" is as close to working with glass as you can get without working in hot glass. The higher the temp, the better the melt. If you've always loved Tom's glazes, learn directly from us how to work in porcelain to get similar results. Requirement to participate: Be able to center and pull a 6" cylinder from about 1.5 lbs. in BMix, porcelain, or stoneware. We don't expect you to be great at throwing porcelain to attend our workshop. But, we need to make sure you have enough time at the wheel to center, pull up the material, and trim your work. All skill levels beyond that are great for Tom and Amy to help you go even further with your work.

Dates: TBD

Transportation & Lodging: For us to come to your workshop location we will drive to a there within 600 miles from the Las Vegas, NV area and have the venue reimburse us for gas. If we need to fly our round-trip flights would need to be covered by the workshop venue as a separate amount from our workshop fee.

Lodging is also a separate fee.
